Walter J. Williams, Sr.

November 17, 1924 - April 22, 2017

Walter J. Williams, Sr., age 92 of Millville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Inspira Medical Center, Vineland, after a brief illness. Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Walter and Gladys (Schojan) Wilson, he then moved to Long Island, NY. Walter was a talented musician indeed, starting a "JC Combo" band in grade school, long before graduating from John Adams High School. Walter then went on to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army during World War II. He played the drums in the 213 Army Band and also was in the Field Artillery. After completing his military service, Walter enlisted in the NJ National Guard and moved to Vineland where he was a dresser in a clothing factory, met his late wife, Margaret, and then moved to Millville. He worked in the Compounding Dept. at West Company in Millville for many years, and retired in 1987. Walter then became a Millville Public Schools Crossing Guard for over 25 years, and retired. He was also a member of Second Methodist Church in Millville for many years. Walter loved music and played all over South Jersey, the Shore Points, and also in New York. He was a member of the Musicians Union Local No. 595 and also the Millville American Legion Nabb-Leslie Post No. 82. Walter will be sadly missed by two sons Walter Williams, III and wife Shelly of Illinois; and John Bova and wife Joan of Millville; granddaughter Joy DiMao and husband Jake; two great grandchildren Mark-Anthony Gaunt and Joshua DiMao; four other grandchildren; and nine other great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Roundey) Williams in 2009 and son William Bova in 2011. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 West Broad Street, Millville. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville. Memories and expressions of sympathy for Walter J.
