Joseph C. Ottinger, Jr.

March 18, 1950 - January 7, 2021

Joseph Creamer Ottinger, Jr. age 70 of Millville, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday afternoon, January 7, 2021, after a brief illness. Born and raised in Millville to the late Joseph and Lorraine Ottinger, Joe was a lifelong Millville resident. He graduated from Millville High School, Class of 1968 and then went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy as a radio operator from 1968 to 1972. Joe met and married his loving wife, Ann, and they shared over 47 years of marriage together. After completing his military service, Joe worked at Wheaton Glass Co. as a tank reader in the hot end for a short time, and then he worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in Millville for over 30 years, retiring in 2005. Joe was a longtime member and past Commander with the Millville American Legion, Nabb-Leslie Post No. 82, and worked as a bartender there for several years as well. He was also a past member of the Millville VFW and was a notable member of MENSA, the High IQ Society. Joe was an avid war history buff and could always be found reading all types of books, especially History and Science Fiction. He also loved to go striper fishing on the waterways along the Delaware Bay, especially Dividing Creek. After he retired, Joe became quite the gamer as well. Most of all, Joe treasured the time that he was able to share with his family. Joe will be sadly missed by his loving wife Ann (Smith) Ottinger of Millville; two sons, Joseph C. Ottinger III of Millville and John D. Ottinger and wife Stephanie of Elmer; one grandson John A. Ottinger of Elmer; many cousins; his loving chocolate lab Hershey, and his recently adopted chocolate lab Coco. He was predeceased by his sister Rosemary Ottinger. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad Street, Millville. Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville. Please remember to practice social distancing while in the funeral home and cemetery. Also, masks are required to be worn in the funeral home at all times.
