Ernest "Ernie" Allen Mancus, age 84 of Millville, passed away peacefully at home on Monday afternoon, September 7, 2020. Born in Bridgeton to the late Angelo and Nellie (Bitters) Mancus, Ernie attended Bridgeton High School. He settled in Millville where he met and married his wife, Mary Ann, and together they shared over 45 years of marriage. Ernie was an extremely skilled builder, carpenter, and expert master craftsman for over 60 years. He worked for the family business, Emerald Homes, in Ocean City, NJ for many years, and retired. Ernie was quite devoted and proud of his Catholic faith, and enjoyed attending Mass at the Parish of All Saints in Millville with his wife Mary Ann for many years. He was also an active volunteer over the years, using his unique skills to restore statuary and countless religious artifacts around the church. Ernie was also a gifted sketch artist and painter using oil paints. He was quite the musician and enjoyed playing the clarinet, saxophone, and flute. Along with his son, Christopher, Ernie was a member of the Millville American Legion Band and the Cumberland County College Wind Symphony for many years. He was even the member of a dance band at one time. Bass fishing, reading, and downhill skiing were but a few of Ernie's other favorite pastimes. He also loved his kitties, especially Spot. Ernie will be sadly missed by his loving wife Mary Ann (Seibert) of Millville; one son Christopher Mancus and wife Dina of Vineland; three daughters, Connie Haas and companion Jim Everton of Millville, Terri Dare and husband William of Vineland, and Laurie Brown of Sedro Woolley, Washington; one sister Janice Rossi of Vineland; nine grandchildren, Jeff, Amy, Michael, Steven, Michael, Natalie, John, Lily, and Shawn; six great-grandchildren, Madison, Abigail, Henry, Olivia, Kendyl, and Kara; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Leonard, Kenneth, and Irvin Mancus. A Mass of Christian Burial for Ernie will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Parish of All Saints, Buck and Depot Streets, Millville. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad Street, Millville. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Millville. Please remember to practice social distancing while in the funeral home, church, and the cemetery. Also, masks are required to be worn in the funeral home and church at all times.
