Doris Anne Suhr Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Doris Anne (Smith) Suhr, dearest wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Millville on Sunday, January 2, 2022 while in the presence of her beloved husband William and some of her children. Doris was born in Camden on November 29, 1932 to the late Earle and Sarah (O’Donnell) Smith. She was raised in Pennsauken and graduated from Moorestown High School. In 1952, Doris married the love of her life, William L. Suhr. They shared nearly 70 years together and became a primary example of what a devoted and loving couple could and should be. They raised their 10 children in a warm and loving home in Merchantville. In addition to love, faith and humor, Doris lived her life and raised her family guided by the following three principles: 1. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you; 2. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything; and, 3. Celebrate differences. A life lived under these three principles is a good and honorable life by any measure. Doris found much enjoyment in daily life and living. She enjoyed playing Scrabble, Train Dominoes, Rummy and Pinochle with her family. Sewing and crafts, and cheering on the Phillies with her husband were but a few of her other favorite pastimes. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, and especially looked forward to the biannual family reunions held throughout the United States. Doris was a longtime member of the Parish of All Saints in Millville where she enjoyed supporting the Parish Food Bank. She was also proud of her past membership of the Sweetwater Fire Company Auxiliary. Doris enjoyed baking for her family and friends. Although the idea of using “love” as an ingredient in recipes is clichéd, for her it was very real and the primary ingredient in everything she made. Doris will be sadly missed by her loving husband William Suhr, Sr. of Millville; her children, William Suhr, Jr. and wife Pamela of Palatine, IL, David Suhr and wife Tish of Seattle, WA, Matthew Suhr of Medford, OR, Nancy Lindquist and husband Victor of Hammonton, Christine Watkins and husband Jed of Bend, OR, Kathleen Nolan and husband Michael of Sayville, NY, Teresa Woodworth and husband Michael of Castle Rock, CO, Daniel Suhr and wife Nancy of Long Valley, and Stephen Suhr and wife Laurisa of Richmond Hill, GA; sister Barbara Aukstikalnis and husband Anthony of Harvey Cedars; brother James Smith and wife Maureen of Hammonton; son-in-law Charles Walker of Mt. Vernon, KY; 32 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Additionally, she always kept a special place in her heart for Veronica Maxey and the late Thomas Gagliardi, Sr. Doris was predeceased by her firstborn, Diane Walker; her sister Irene Morales; and brother-in-law Edmundo Morales. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Parish of All Saints, Buck and Depot Streets, Millville. A Celebration of Life for Doris will be held in the Spring of 2022 and a date will be announced in the coming weeks. Arrangements are under the direction of the Christy Funeral Home, Millville.
