Local Funeral Director plays a vital role in building
the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

A local funeral director will be playing a role in the nationwide effort by the National Funeral Director's Association (NFDA) by contributing towards its $5 million pledge for the construction of the National World War II Memorial, in Washington, D.C.


A dedication of the World War II Memorial will be held in Washington, D.C. on Veteran's Day, Saturday, November 11, 2000, at 2 p.m.


Matt H. Christy of Christy Funeral Home, Millville, N.J., had served in the U.S. Army as First Lieutenant, was a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy, and was commissioned through the University of Pennsylvania R.O.T.C. program.

“This is a long-overdue memorial and I am proud to be a part of our national effort to build it.,” Christy said.

About $75 million of the $100 million required to build the Memorial has already been raised. The NFDA pledged to raise $5 million of the remaining $25 million needed to construct the Memorial.

Brochures to list with the Registry are available at the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad, Millville, for anyone wanting to be part of this permanent record. The brochures explain details of outstanding tributes to all who made winning the war possible, whether in uniform on the battle lines, or on the home front supporting the troops.

In Addition, the Christy Funeral Home is making an in-kind gift to the Nabb Leslie Post 82 American Legion Of Millville. Christy, a member of the American Legion, said the gift will help defray expenses from repairs to the Post Home following Fire Damage last Thanksgiving.
